Rent by Musicalgroep Superbia (English) - Matinee (Saturday)
RENT tells the story of filmmaker Mark and musician Roger, who live together in a drafty apartment in the East Village. The end of the millennium is approaching, there is a serious housing shortage and the HIV/AIDS epidemic is mercilessly claiming many lives. The two housemates live a tormented artist's life, meet new friends, fall in love, receive an eviction notice, and have to deal with loss. In short, RENT is a performance about the harsh reality of New York in the 80s/90s, in which finding a community offers the only salvation. Larson based the story and characters on true events from his environment and the friends around him. For RENT he wrote a complicated contemporary rock score, which provides musical accompaniment to the entire performance. RENT is a sung-through piece, which means that almost all the lyrics are sung. Musicalgroup Superbia presents a contemporary version with a lot of attention to the original masterpiece.
